Producing & Marketing Internship

This position typically involves 15-20 hours per week over 3 days. We ask for a minimum of 3 months commitment. Hours and length of commitment can be modified for students seeking school credit.

OVERVIEW: This position is a mentorship that offers hands-on experience producing off-Broadway theater, and can be shaped by the intern’s strengths and interests. The intern will work closely with ERS’s Producing Director Ariana Smart Truman, gaining exposure to every aspect of running an artist-led ensemble making original work. The main responsibility of the internship is assisting the Producing Director, but there are also opportunities for the intern to lead a producing project for our company.

DETAILS: This position is ideal for students or professionals interested in developing, marketing and presenting work for a medium-sized non-profit. Interns will learn how to develop and present work on both national and international performance platforms. Interns will leave having created and collaborated on a variety of documents such as information sheets, invitations, programs, contracts, budgets, schedules, and marketing materials which can serve as templates for future producing projects.

Applicants must have excellent organizational and communication skills. In particular, applicants should have facility with social media, email communication, web research, calendar management, and have good interpersonal skills.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assisting Producer in managing, developing, gaining commissioning, and forging relationships with presenting institutions domestically and abroad. Intern will also assist with developing and marketing all of the company activities in NYC. Depending on the intern’s interests and skills, tasks can include:

-Attending production and staff meetings and taking notes

-Tracking multi-year touring and production calendar

-Creating information sheets about touring productions

-Researching new presenting opportunities

-Assisting with managing project budgets

-Proof-reading and drafting a range of contracts and internal documents

-Assisting with planning and executing special events and fundraisers

-Assisting on the ground with all performances and events

-Managing social media accounts

-Assist with creating web content, e-blasts, and newsletters

-Produce an event or project such as an invited work-in-progress showing, a fundraiser, an educational program, or an evening of short performances. This internship can culminate in an event for which the intern has taken on a leadership role as producer, in consultation with our staff.
