Dear Friend,

22 years ago, I had a few friends lined up to help me make ERS’ first show, Mr. Antipyrine, Fire Extinguisher. We had a tiny theater booked for the short run, and we had a small circle of acquaintances who would come to see it. In 1991-92, that show played to audiences of about 30 in late-night performances. In 2012-13, over 20,000 people saw performances of Gatz, Arguendo, The Select and Fondly, Collette Richland. Our company has grown into a diverse ensemble of artists, audience and supporters, and you are a part of it.

One of the most important ways in which you play your role in this ensemble is by financially supporting the work. It’s time, once again, to ask you to do that.

You are the ERS ensemble. By making a donation, you don’t just support the artists of an accomplished theater group – you support something that you yourself are a part of. You are there with us at talkbacks, at benefit parties, at open rehearsals, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and most importantly, you are there in the audience when we perform.

Your participation completes the whole equation. What we do simply isn’t theater until you come to see it. And if buying a ticket makes us whole, making a financial contribution – of any size – moves us forward. It guarantees that our ensemble, all 20,000+ of us, will continue to make and enjoy this unique brand of live theater.

When I arrived in New York, I never imagined I’d have the privilege of being a part of something this big. It’s overwhelming. I’m deeply grateful, and I’m so proud of all of us.

I hope you’ll make a contribution and do your part for our shared endeavor. Without you, we’re not Elevator Repair Service.

All my best,
