Development Internship

Development Internship: This position must be available 12-15 hours per week over 2-3 days. We ask for a minimum of 3 months or one semester. Position begins September 2016.

OVERVIEW

This position is a part-time assistant to ERS’s Manager of Development, Marilyn Haines. It offers the opportunity to learn about the contributed income side of ERS’s budget; how we raise money from individual gifts, grants, and fundraising events. The intern will have the chance to participate in all aspects of ERS’s fundraising and development, and will develop concrete grant-writing and database management skills applicable to most non-profit arts jobs.

DETAILS

This position is ideal for arts administrators interested in becoming a Director of Development, or the Executive Director for a mid-sized non-profit arts organization. It is also applicable to artists wanting to learn more about institutional giving in general. The assistant must be highly organized and detail-oriented, possess a facility with written language, and be at ease working with technology and data. Familiarity with html and word press is a plus but not required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

-Process individual donor’s gifts

-Update and manage database

-Help coordinate fundraising appeal and newsletters, including direct mail pieces and digital components

-Attend brainstorming and planning meetings about appeal letters

-Provide support for fundraising events

-Conduct donor research

-Review grants materials

-Research grant opportunities

-Maintain grants files, digital and hard copy

-Proof read grants

-Help track development calendar

-Assist with composition and submission of grant materials
