OVERVIEW

This is a semester-long position beginning in September 2019 as a part-time assistant to ERS’s Director of Development, Marilyn Haines. In addition to a heavy focus on our Spring 2020 gala, it offers the opportunity to learn about the contributed income side of ERS’s budget; how we raise money from individual gifts, grants, and events. The intern will have the chance to participate in all aspects of ERS’s fundraising and development throughout the internship, and will develop concrete project management, special event, and database management skills applicable to non-profit arts jobs.

DETAILS

This position is ideal for arts administration students interested in becoming a Director of Development or Executive Director for a mid-sized non-profit arts organization. It is also applicable to artists who want to learn more about fundraising in general. The candidate must be highly organized and detail-oriented, possess a facility with written language, and be at ease working with technology and data. Familiarity with social media, HTML, and WordPress is a plus but not required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES CAN INCLUDE:

-Assist Office Manager with gifts processing

-Update and manage database

-Help coordinate direct mail fundraising appeals and e-newsletters/communication

-With Development staff, help create and manage a timeline of fundraising tasks for the spring gala

-Provide event support and lead volunteers on the evening of the gala

-Conduct donor research

-Research grant opportunities

-Maintain grants files, digital and hard copy

-Assist with composition and submission of grant materials
