SO, THIS JUST HAPPENED…

ERS News and Announcements

Ensemble members Greig Sargeant and Ben Williams and Artistic Director John Collins recently participated in a conversation with Katie Pearl and Pablo Wickham from Wesleyan University about the development of the upcoming ERS production Baldwin and Buckley at Cambridge. You can watch it on our website.

IN THE HOT SEAT:
VIN KNIGHT

Company Member Profile

Ensemble member Vin Knight has appeared in 10 ERS productions including Gatz, The Select (The Sun Also Rises), Arguendo, Measure for Measure, and Everyone’s Fine with Virginia Woolf. He can be seen in the upcoming limited series Inventing Anna on Netflix and the film Master on Amazon Prime.

Where were you born? Baton Rouge, LA

First job you ever had: Paper boy

Worst job you ever had: I’ve been lucky. I was a litigation paralegal for close to 25 years — that was my day job. The last 17 of those years were at NBC, which was great. I really liked the work and especially loved my colleagues. Before that I was at a law firm (which shall remain nameless) and, while my tenure could have been shorter, I met some great people there, too.

Most surprising thing about you: I have no idea. You’d have to ask someone else.

Favorite ERS show (whether you were involved in it or not): The Sound and the Fury

Best thing about working with ERS: Working. So many actors spend more time looking for the next job than actually working. At ERS, we are very fortunate to be able to create new shows and tour existing ones, both of which we are looking forward to with a great deal of hope and enthusiasm.

What do you love about what you do? There are few things I don’t love about it, but mainly I love the people. I can’t wait to get back in a room with them again!

Any quarantine reading/viewing/listening, dining, or wellness tips? Not necessarily tips, but I’ve done some deep dives. I like a project.

Reading: Proust (that took a while); the Patrick Melrose Novels (that took less time); all of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s stories (he wrote a LOT of them, and some remain uncollected, but I managed to track them down via online databases and a very kind reference librarian).

Viewing: Filling in gaps in the Ingmar Bergman and John Huston filmographies. Not everything Bergman made is a depressing masterpiece, and nothing Huston made is entirely without wit or charm.

Listening: Spending a lot of time lately with Sammy Davis Jr.

Any pets? Peeves. What’s the word for a group of them? Posse? A Posse of Peeves.

Which do you prefer: french toast, pancakes, or waffles? Bacon

Which do you prefer: classical music, jazz, or show tunes? Jazz versions of show tunes

TOWN TATTLE

News from Company Members and Friends

John Gasper, April Matthis, and Ben Williams worked on The MS Phoenix Rising, a new serial podcast from Playwrights Horizons written by Trish Harnetiaux and directed by Katie Brook. The New Yorker calls the production “among the funniest to emerge from the pandemic.” Available wherever you get your podcasts and here.

Dans Sheehan, from the other side of the world, is producing a new work for Melbourne’s inaugural RISING Festival this May entitled THIS (Shorthand for “How good is this? / A popular noncommittal re-posting tag / Anagram of shit). THIS is a portrait of the present with its skin peeled off.  Three levels of choose-your-own-adventure theater. And mud wrestling. More information here.

Glimpses into ERS’s Past

Leslie Buxbaum in the 1998 production of Total Fictional Lie. As spring arrives and we slowly emerge from quarantining, we very much relate.
